New Product: Acrylic Statues

When I was a kid I played little league baseball.  I like to think I was pretty good, but that is the memory of little boy who believed he was pretty good at everything.

If you have ever played sports — or participated in anything, really — you know that part of the fun is looking at the pictures. You know, the the action shots.  Today’s kids like to watch the video recorded on mom or dad’s latest digital recorder or smart phone.

When I was in the 5th grade the photographer who took the pictures for our little league baseball team offered something new and exciting for all of us who loved and collected baseball cards—our little league picture in the form of a baseball card, complete with “All-Star” plastered all over the front of the picture.  On the back was our statistics such as height, weight, whether we batted and threw left or right, our position, and our favorite baseball team.  That was a new trend in photography that took off and we still see it today.  Just last month my son and daughter had their Upward Football and Cheerleading pictures taken and this was an option offered by the photographer.  Twenty-five years later photographers are offering the same old, stale products!

Today’s kids are used to seeing flashy pictures and digital images or videos.  Maybe some of the flare has been lost with the “sport card” type of picture.  That is why Studio P is now offering acrylic statues. These action-figure sized pictures are amazingly realistic in their Plexiglas finish and edged around the action!  Imagine having one of these sitting on a shelf, mantel, or your kid’s desk in 3D action.  When I first saw them my initial thought was “Boy, would I have loved to have seen myself in my college uniform on one of these babies!”  Even as an adult with my own kids, the fire to have one of myself was incredible.  I guess we never really outgrow the desire to see ourselves in action, as the star of the show!

Acrylic statues by Studio P is the next generation of “action” shots.  I am reminded of the scene in Back to the Future II where Marty is in the future Hill Valley and the movie theater marquee behind him is actually a 3D image of a shark.  Back in 1986 they were not used to these 3D images, and as he turns around the 3D shark comes out to him and acts like it is swallowing him whole.  The whole effect was cutting edge. I think these acrylic statues are the same kind of thing. What kid wouldn’t want a life-like image of his or her self to stare at and dream?  Better yet, what grandparent or favorite aunt or uncle wouldn’t love to see one of these at their house instead of just a typical 5×7 hanging on the wall?

If you are interested, schedule a time for us to come to your budding star’s next game, program, or recital and let us snap some live-action photographs for you to choose from!
